FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The DuPage Medical Group Charitable Fund made a commitment of more than $61,000 to fund People’s Resource Center’s (PRC’s) Westmont Food Pantry. The first of four checks was presented by Co-Directors of the Charitable Fund, Stewart Gibbs and Peri Todd at PRC’s 35th Anniversary Open House on September 17th, 2010.
“We are so excited to be a part of helping PRC (www.peoplesrc.org) with their noble effort of feeding the hungry,” said Gibbs. DMG’s Charitable Fund Advisory Board was tasked with finding a charitable initiative that would have a direct impact to the community. The Board approved sponsoring the annual operational costs of the Saturday Westmont Pantry.
DMG is also providing a volunteer staff of six to eight DMG employees, family and friends each weekend. DMG volunteers began work at the pantry on October 2nd and will continue for a period of at least one year.
The People’s Resource Center Food Pantry program is unique as it provides fresh produce, frozen meat and healthy food options in addition to pantry staples to families in need throughout DuPage County. They are one of the only “full choice” food pantries in the area. This means that families can choose food from pantry shelves, allowing them to select food that best serves their families. “Giving people the ability to choose the food items they wanted cuts down on waste of donated items. People chose items they knew they would use. This program gives recipients a dignified way of seeking help”, commented Alix Charles, MD, DMG dermatologist practicing in Hinsdale and member of the Charitable Fund Advisory Board.
Giving does not stop on Saturdays, however. “We want to provide a year-round giving experience for all physicians, staff and families. Some may donate time, some money, and many will soon be donating gifts of food to a year-long food drive with collection bins located at many of our DMG locations,” reported Todd.
DuPage Medical Group Charitable Fund is a community partner with and affiliate fund of The DuPage Community Foundation (www.dcfdn.org) The Fund was started in 2010 to provide physicians and staff an organized way to partner with the community through charitable giving and volunteerism.
